Space is personal. An artist's working space is a sanctuary. Jasper and I didn't work with formal lesson plans (or design plans); we just started measuring a footprint, pouring footers, framing, staining, etc.
Much of the digging, pouring footers, framing, and roofing were teamwork oriented endeavors. Although, we did each have our individual areas wanting to focus on, take ownership for. Jasper's specialities in this structure were the small window panes & A/V area. Honestly, Jasper's solutions usually had greater sensibility over mine.
With such sucessful springboards resulting from designing and building a woodshop in Fall 2020, we decided to expand upon the experience. Our goal, to design a painting studio for a client; Jasper will use the studio when Houston-based painter, Elizabeth Depew isn't visiting Silver City.
Jasper took two classes at WNMU this summer. With an ambitious time frame of 4 weeks to begin and finish, we designed & we built.
We knew we were going to use a board and baton style. We knew we'd let glass dictate design; all glass was purchased at our local Habitat Restore (shower doors, individual panes, & windows frames we dismantled). We also knew we wanted to incorporate rebar.
