It's the expressive tool of the Cultural Anthropologist. It's public, being less than 4 feet from the street. It's safe to paint on it with any intention; it's on private property. Because its interior is mirrored, one can stick their head inside to experience infinite reflections - a meaning making tool. It sits on a lazy susan (spins) without restriction.
Although murals and graffiti from other countries could have birthed numerous conversations sourounding culture, we stuck exclusively to our application of spray paint, and our style of reproduction. I often simply laughed at myself; I'm a novice painter and still am learning about the media I play with.
Following such a successful Fall 2020 semester, whereby Jasper rose to every intellectual and experiential challenge with verve and enthusiasm, it was clear would excel at WNMU as a fulltime student. Although fluent in mathematics, he's chosen to focus on the visual arts.
I wasn't going to interfere nor compete with his full time schedule at Western New Mexico University. But, I wanted to continue connecting with him on projects; we decided to continue forward with the Infinity Box.
Infinity Box instructions: Choose graffiti or mural art displayed in a foreign country. He then had to split the image in half, and print both halves. I was responsible for reproducing one side and he the other, on the Infintity Box.
